New Kids on the Block

abc kitchens

No expense was spared in bringing abc kitchens to life – the latest branch of Jean-Georges Vongerichten's NYC farm-to-table restaurant has opened its doors at The Emory in London. Overlooking Hyde Park and endowed with a smattering of Damien Hirst artwork, the venue promises a mixture of “farm-to-table, plant-based and Latin-inspired dishes”. Signature dishes include beer-battered maitake mushrooms, pretzel-crusted calamari, pork confit taco and beef tenderloin with chimichurri and lime. And the views of Hype Park (via the striking glass façade) are to die for.

OMA

Restaurateur David Carter is bringing a touch of Mediterranean sparkle to Borough Market this spring, with the launch of OMA on 16 April. Having cut his teeth running the enormously popular Smokestak, Carter should have no problem wowing the public with this modern Greek restaurant. Charcoal-seared beef short rib and octopus should not be missed, in addition to oxtail ‘osso bucco’ giouvetsi, bone marrow and beef fat pangrattato. The wine list, meanwhile, is appropriately short and sweet, with some bespoke cocktails up for grabs as well. Εβίβα!

Cloth

This ancient street in Farringdon (home to London's oldest residential building) is about to welcome a new business into its midst.  Opening its doors on 29 April, Cloth is the brainchild of wine importers Joe Haynes and Ben Butterworth, who have joined forces with chef Tom Hurst. Together they will oversee a casual bar area offering drinks and snacks from 12pm until closing, and a more formal restaurant open for lunch and dinner. Hurst’s seasonal menus will celebrate the best of British produce, such as Cornish squid, black olive, preserved lemon and lardo, and Somerset hogget, grilled cos lettuce, smoked tongue and anchovy. A weekly changing set lunch menu (£24 for two courses or £29 for three) delivers great value, while the selection of wines by the glass is unbeatable: more than 20 options include Château Soucherie Savennières and Pietramore Montepulciano dʼAbruzzo Superiore.
